CDR Doug Hanley holds degrees in biological sciences and medicine. A veteran of the Marine Corps and the Vietnam conflict, he has served as a physician for The Sisters of Mary in the Dominican Republic, a county sanitarian, an institutional sanitarian in the Indian Health Service, and the Quality Management Coordinator for Health Care for the Federal Bureau of Prisons at FCI Terminal Island. CDR Hanley is currently assigned to the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) as an Emergency Response Coordinator/Environmental Health Scientist, where his unique combination of training and experience has proven extremely valuable in addressing the rising epidemiological issue of terrorist use of toxic substances. CDR Hanley currently serves as a liaison between ATSDR and other federal and state agencies, providing them with information, documents and training to prepare them to respond to terrorist incidents involving hazardous substances. ssioned Officers Association Board of Directors, and was name selected by the Surgeon Generals Chief of Staff for âTeam ALPHAâ pre-deployed for Hurricane Katrina.
In 2007 he completed a 6 week deployment with the US Navy on the USS Peleliu in the South Pacific addressing the preventive medicine, epidemiology and environmental aspects of this presidential humanitarian mission.
CDR Hanley is currently certified as a Registered Sanitarian and Grade One Water Treatment Plant Operator. He is the recipient of several awards and commendations including: The PHS Citation x 3, Crisis Response Service Award x2, National Emergency Preparedness Service Award, Outstanding Unit Citation x 4, Unit Commendation x7, Hazardous Duty Award, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry.
CDR Hanleyâs voluntary community involvement includes, Promise Keepers Conferee Food Supervisor Los Angeles 1996 (47,000 for lunch), Cabrillo Marine Aquarium Whale watch Docent, and he served for 7 years as a member of the Cobb County Board of Health and Community Services Board.
